So... Gregg and I have been going back and forth on the motor mount design options. Originally we (I mainly) wanted to get the mounts designed similar to the MKI Escort Rally vintage ones. Ones built into the crossmember. Since the original motor mounts were built there I figured this would be perfect. While getting all the ideas on the table we saw a few obstacles in our path. Nothing major... but one was the ease of getting the motor in and out of the car. The second was getting a header to clear the motor mounts.
What we came up with was a support the beafed up the frame rail and the motor mount welded to that support with box tubing coming from the mounts out to the engine. 90º mounts cradling the engine instead of the engine just resting on pads. This will be a stiff setup but should release any stress on the crossmember so it can focus on dealing with the suspension bits.
